Event Description:

BWiC invites you to join the conversation, to build connection, advance an initiative, maybe even solve a problem or two.  We are honored to welcome prominent women within the commercial construction industry to share the intentional and the serendipitous, their heroes and the villains, the opportunities captured, lost and set free, and what they spend far too much time doing with their time.

We promise, it will be worth yours!

This month we are featuring Sarah Gallop, Director, Office of Govt.  & Community Relations

Sarah Gallop is Director of Government and Community Relations at MIT. She serves as a liaison to the Cambridge government and community, working with residents, public officials, businesses, regulatory bodies, nonprofit agencies, and advocacy organizations on topics that comprise MIT’s “Town-Gown” relationship with the City of Cambridge. Sarah’s areas of focus are land use, development, housing, economic development, sustainability, transportation, taxation, equity and inclusion, and other public policy matters that impact MIT, Cambridge, and the Commonwealth.

In the community, Sarah is a founding board member and former Chair of the Kendall Square Association, a board member and former Chair of the Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Cambridge Community Foundation, a corporator of the East Cambridge Savings Bank, and a member and former president of the Rotary Club.

For her work at MIT and in Cambridge, Sarah has received a number of awards including:

  • The FSILG Advocate Award for support of MIT’s Fraternities, Sororities and Independent Living Groups (FSILGs)

  • Two MIT Infinite Mile Awards: 1) for developing bridges of understanding between MIT and the community, and 2) for problem solving and leadership during the Kendall Square zoning process.

  • CASPAR’s 40th Anniversary Award for broad collaboration around issues related to the City’s homeless population.

  • The Cambridge Rotary Club’s Fellowship Award for advancing Rotary’s ideals of fellowship and “Service Above Self.”

  • The Leading Role Award from Cambridge Community Television for behind-the-scenes contributions to the Cambridge community.

  • The Business Person of the Year Award from the Cambridge Chamber of Commerce for leadership and community engagement.

Prior to taking her position at MIT, Sarah worked in the Boston city government in a variety of capacities related to housing, construction, and community and economic development.

Sarah earned her BA in political science at Bates College and her MBA in public management and organizational behavior at Boston University.
