Boston Pipeline Program - Adopt-A-School
The Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC MA) is excited to announce the expansion of its innovative pilot program, in collaboration with Boston Public Schools, aimed at opening doors to rewarding STEM-based career opportunities for young students in traditionally underrepresented communities.
Program Expansion:
On Friday, October 20th, AGC MA will be returning to Mattahunt Elementary School in Mattapan while also extending its reach to two new schools, Lyndon Pilot School in Roxbury and Umana in East Boston. This expansion signifies AGC MA's commitment to broadening its efforts to engage and inspire young minds about the exciting career prospects within the construction sector. These fifth-grade students will once again be exposed to engaging STEM-based commercial construction activities led by dedicated team members from AGC MA firms. Our participating member firms include BOND Construction, C.E. Floyd Company, Elaine Construction, Gaston Electrical, Shawmut Design and Construction, Sienna Construction, Turner Construction, Walsh Brothers, and W.T. Rich Company.
Program Success:
In the previous school year, AGC MA initiated a unique partnership by "adopting" the fifth-grade classes at Mattahunt Elementary School in Mattapan. AGC MA member firms volunteered to lead the activities, offering valuable insights into a wide range of job opportunities, and establishing clear pathways for these young students to envision professional careers within the construction industry.
Program Design:
The students will have the opportunity to read and receive a signed copy of
"Celeste Saves the City," a story designed to inspire young minds. Furthermore, they will participate in a project management activity, fostering enthusiasm and motivation towards pursuing professional careers within our dynamic industry.
AGC MA is committed to empowering the next generation of leaders in the construction sector, particularly from underrepresented communities. This initiative exemplifies our dedication to providing students with exposure to STEM-based career opportunities and serves as a testament to the construction industry's commitment to diversity and inclusion. We look forward to another year of inspiring and shaping the future workforce, as we embark on this journey with the young talents of Mattahunt, Lyndon Pilot, and Umana schools. Together, we aim to "Build, Inspire, and Succeed" in the construction industry.
