JOIN THE CONVERSATION ON SINGLE EXIT BUILDING PROPOSALS
As you are probably aware there have been a number of proposals at the state level and in the standards development process to increase the allowable height of apartment buildings with a single exit stair. NFPA will be hosting a Single Stair Symposium on September 11-12 at NFPA headquarters in Quincy, MA. The Symposium will consist of a number of presentations that will be followed by a discussion. Following the event, NFPA will publish a report that can be used by policymakers to understand the issue from a fire and life safety perspective and can be used as a framework for discussions in code development. The presentations will include current code allowances in both NFPA and ICC codes, jurisdictions that have local allowances permitting taller buildings than what is currently allowed by NFPA or ICC, and international perspectives. Speakers will also include those who support the changes and those who are opposed. The discussion will focus on the positive aspects of the proposals, address areas of concern, and identify any knowledge gaps.
This symposium is open to interested parties; however, space is limited. Please register using the below form before Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
