We are currently seeking volunteers for our 6th Annual Adopt-A-School Event on Friday, March 13, 2026, and we would greatly appreciate your support.
Thank you to those who have already committed to volunteer—we’re grateful for your leadership. We encourage all Anchors to consider participating and to share this opportunity within your organization to help us maximize engagement and impact.
This year, we will visit four Boston-area elementary schools:
Mattahunt Elementary School – Mattapan, MA (Leads: Darlene Conners and Dorcas Burns)
Umana Academy – East Boston, MA (Leads: Karellis Rivera and Mariana Zapata)
Edison School – Brighton, MA (Leads: Cam Burkacki and TBD)
Dudley Neighborhood Charter School – Roxbury, MA (Leads: Jess Baccari and Maria LeVie)
DRONE OPERATOR NEEDED
We are also seeking a drone operator who would be willing to deliver an engaging presentation to students about drone technology, career pathways, and real-world applications in the field. This is a great opportunity to inspire students and showcase the innovation happening within our industry.
If you or someone on your team is interested in serving as our drone presenter, please let us contact Daelene Connors at dconners@walshbrothers.com.
Volunteer Commitment:
- Volunteers are asked to commit approximately three hours on the morning of Friday, March 13th at one of the participating schools. Volunteers will be paired (two per table) with a group of four students and will help guide them through engaging, age-appropriate activities designed to introduce careers in construction.
- We welcome CFDI members and employees of AGC MA member firms—please SHARE this opportunity within your organization.
- Sign up at whichever school you chose – Dudley and Edison currently have the greatest need.
- This is a rewarding charitable initiative that supports workforce development and makes a meaningful, immediate impact on 4th and 5th grade students.
Volunteer Activities Include:
- Introducing yourself and sharing your role in the construction industry
- Assisting students as they try on PPE (many wear it throughout the event)
- Reading Celeste Tunnels Underground by civil engineer and author Courtney Kelly
- Supporting a sustainability-themed BINGO activity
Each school will have two site leads who will guide volunteers through the Agenda. The students are consistently enthusiastic, engaged, and appreciative of the time spent with them. For those seeking additional information, school leads will host brief virtual meetings the week prior to the event.
If you are interested in volunteering—whether for the first time or as a returning participant—please sign up using the 2026 Volunteers tab at the link below or reach out directly to a site lead. All volunteers will be required to complete a brief online CORI check and email a copy of their ID with their online CORI form.
If you have any questions or would like additional details, please do not hesitate to reach out.
