In partnership with The Blackstone Valley Educational Foundation and the ACE Mentorship Program, AGC MA has established a new pilot program “AGC MA/ ACE Building Future Leaders Program for the Blackstone Valley: An AGC MA Work Force Development Initiative”.

The goal of the proposed program is to educate and inform teachers, guidance counselors, parents and the public of the exciting and lucrative work opportunities in the Architect, Engineer and Construction Industry (AEC) in the Commonwealth who will help to identify prospective high school students grades 9-12 in the Blackstone Valley Region who are most likely to find success in careers that include but are not limited to:

Careers in Management: Project Management, Project Engineer, Superintendent, Facilities Management, Safety Director, Virtual Design, Estimator, Architect, Business Development, Marketing and more.

Careers in Skilled Trades: Bricklayer, Carpenter, Electrician, Glazier, Plumber, Sheet Metal Worker and more.

Part I of the 2- year program will begin in January of 2018 with a half day seminar at Consigli’s cutting- edge facility in Milford, MA with an integrated agenda that will walk approximately 20- 30 Blackstone Valley educators through a project life-cycle with demonstrations and presentations by the Consigli team members.

The seminar will focus on many of the skills required including: team work, communications, technical skills and the education and or training required for each role as well as information regarding potential salaries and career growth.

Part II of the plan will take place in March of 2018 as a “Career Fair” at one of the local Blackstone Valley Collaborative schools during school hours. Approximately 10 members (selected mix of additional GC’s and Subs) will offer information to 100 students about the opportunities available, and the education and training required. ACE Mentors will also be in attendance to offer fun, interactive demonstrations for the students to participate.

Part III of the program will take place in the Fall of 2018 with 8-15 ACE after -school 2- hour sessions offering interactive learning opportunities in AEC.

The final portion of the 2-year program will be placing students in “job shadow/intern” programs with engaged AGC members.

The AGC/ACE Building Leaders Program with Blackstone Valley program hopes to identify and cultivate a future workforce within the AEC industry in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts that will offer an opportunity to track students as they advance through the program. The program, if considered successful can be repeated in the Blackstone Valley or the model can be used as a template to be implemented in other regions in the State.
