The Boston Women’s Workforce Council is a public-private partnership between the City of Boston and Simmons College School of Management. Originally formed in April 2013, its mission is to close the gender wage gap and remove the visible and invisible barriers to women’s advancement in today’s working world. The Council; comprised of leaders in the private sector, academia, non-profit organizations, and labor unions, works with businesses in the Greater Boston area to ensure that 100% of the talent pool is used to make Boston the premier place for working women. Cathy E. Minehan, former Dean of the Simmons College School of Management, and Evelyn Murphy, President of The WAGE Project, are the Council's Co-Chairs.

The bulk of the Council’s work focuses on 100% Talent: The Boston Women’s Compact. The Compact is a first-in-the-nation, public-private partnership in which businesses pledge to take concrete, measurable steps to eliminate the wage gap in their company and to report their progress and employee demographic and salary data anonymously every two years. Over 160 businesses have signed on so far, including Fortune 500 companies, with new Signatories being added regularly.
