Fran Colantonio, Chairman and CEO of Colantonio Inc, was recently named Vice Chair of the AGC MA’s Board of Directors for the 2018-2020 term.  Fran has been a member of the AGC MA for the past 35 years and on the Board of Directors since 2015.

Fran started his carpentry business in 1978, remodeling kitchens and building decks in his Newton neighborhood.  He has since grown Colantonio Inc. into a $75 million general contracting and construction management firm, employing 50 people and specializing in complex projects in the education, historic renovation, affordable housing, and public markets.  He holds a BS in Business Administration from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, as well as his Construction Supervisor, Public Safety, Boston Builder, Welder, Hoisting, and Commercial Maritime Captain’s Licenses.

Fran is passionate about workforce development in the construction industry.  Over the past couple of years, he has promoted construction careers by holding informational workshops with students, parents and educators at several local high schools.  He and his staff created two promotional videos and launched the Massachusetts Construction Advancement Program (MCAP) Guide to Construction Careers, which provides information on job descriptions, skills assessment tools, apprenticeship and training programs, hourly wage rates, and online resources, all of which can be found on the firm’s website.

As part of AGC MA’s commitment to build the next generation of construction managers, it engaged with Fitchburg State University (FSU) to elevate its Construction Technology Program to a more competitive level.  Last year, Fran lead the creation of an Industry Advisory Board (IAB), made up of FSU administrators and faculty, AGC MA staff and member firms, the Mass State College Building Authority, and other allied organizations, that now provides FSU students access to AGC MA educational programming, guest speaker presentations, and internship opportunities.

Fran’s plans as Vice Chair over the next couple of years include making AGC of MA a true partner for small middle and large companies to turn to, continuing promotion of construction careers at high schools, and maintaining its commitment to the IAB at Fitchburg State University.
